Bio

Dr. Sagar Sarkar
Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Delhi

​

Dr. Sagar Sarkar's research focuses on laser material processing, additive manufacturing, process monitoring and control, and the mechanical behavior of advanced manufactured materials.

He completed his B.Tech (Honours) - Dual Degree and Ph.D. at IIT Kharagpur, where he later served as a Senior Scientific Officer. In this role, he led the development of an indigenous metal additive manufacturing system with real-time process monitoring and control, and contributed to the development of laser-assisted cold spray and laser shock deposition systems.

His current work explores the behavior of additively manufactured materials under dynamic loading including fatigue and durability alongside intelligent online monitoring techniques for ensuring process reliability and part quality. His broader research interests span laser-based manufacturing technologies, advanced materials processing, and the integration of sensing, automation, and data-driven methods in manufacturing systems.

Through collaborations with academia, research organizations, and industry, Dr. Sarkar works to translate fundamental research into scalable manufacturing solutions with real-world industrial impact.
